“Sita” in Sanskrit means furrow (a line in a field that is made for planting seeds in, by a farming machine that turns the earth /plough).
In Rigveda, Sita is the Hindu goddess of fertility.
According to Ramayana, Sita was discovered in a furrow when King Janaka was ploughing. Janaka was ploughing as part of a ritual to worship mother earth (Bhumi Devi) to ensure fertility of the land.
Sita is considered to be a child of Mother Earth (Bhumi Devi). King Janaka raised Sita as his own daughter.
